Apnea, free diving or breath-hold diving is a beautiful sport for people who love the feeling of being under water without the aid of artificial breathing equipment. Free diving forms the basis of many different water sports ranging from spear fishing to underwater photography or the extreme sport competitive apnea.

Did you know that a freediving world record for holding one’s breath is more then 9 minutes? Do you know that people have been in depths of more then 200 meters and back on a one single breath of air?

So, what is freediving like?

Ever tried asking someone how it is like when you are jumping with a parachute? Or flying an airplane? It can not be described, it is one of the things you need to experience.

That moment when you feel in tune with yourself, in tune with your surrounding, the water, you experience a higher perception of the nature. A primeval mammal diving instinct wakes up and takes you to a journey you are hard to part with.

Freediving is fun only when practiced safely

No matter how do you decide to practice, never do this alone specially if you do not know where are your limits. This is the first and most important rule of freediving, one you should never forget.

Xtreme Gap have partnered with the regions leading Free Diving School an independent free dive organization established in 2004 by internationally recognized free dive instructors. The team has vast experience in training and worldwide competitions. Their qualifications include dives deeper than 80 meters and static breath-holds of over 7½ minutes.

In 6 weeks you will learn about free diving, about the sensation, beauty, personal experience and challenge. It is so much more than just depth and minutes. You will visit another dimension where you can move around freely and become one with the sea.

The school is located on a tropical island in Thailand. So when you are not exploring the sea bed, you will be living the life in paradise!

By training your body and mind and learning the proper breathing techniques you will feel comfortable and safe in this calm and silent environment.

The Xtreme Gap team will instruct free dive education and safety from beginner to master free diver level. Apnea is the ultimate diving experience. No depth or ascent limits with the current world record being held at 214 meters over 9 minutes.

Program Itinerary Summary

All our courses include theory sessions, water sessions, equipment, course materials, boat trips and course certification. Plus our team can provide underwater film footage and photography of your course upon request.

Free diver course (max. 20 meters)

…is an introduction to apnea. The objective of this course is to reach controlled free diving to a depth of 20 meters by applying relaxation and basic breathing techniques.

Advanced free diver course (max 40 meters)

….is an intense course. Aims of this course include deeper dives to depths between 30 - 40 meters, and an introduction to static apnea with breath-holds of a 3-minute minimum.

Master free diver course

…is an internship training program where you will maximize your potential. You will practice all major free dive disciplines of free immersion, dynamics, static, constant weight with fins, unassisted, no limits and variable weight. Plus masters will assist instructors for all course levels.
